Since September 21, 2026, ANPI has once again been authorized as a technical institute under the European quality mark Q for smoke detectors. This recognition enables ANPI to offer manufacturers the testing and quality evaluations required by the Q standard and, when all requirements are met, to issue the Q-certificates necessary to request a license to use the mark.

A useful recognition for manufacturers

The Q mark is a European Union certification mark for smoke detectors. It is based on technical requirements and a verification process that go beyond the baseline requirements applicable to market placement.

ANPI’s authorization is of particular interest to manufacturers wishing to market their products in Germany or, more broadly, to highlight an extra level of quality on the European market.

Enhanced requirements for smoke detectors

The Q standard includes specific requirements regarding reliability and durability:

  • An integrated power supply designed for an operating life of at least 10 years;
  • Increased resistance to disturbances and false alarms;
  • Enhanced testing of proper detection and alarm operation;
  • Soiling compensation;
  • Requirements for radio transmission and communication modules, where present;
  • Deactivation upon removal and reactivation upon remounting.

ANPI’s role

As an authorized technical institute, ANPI can perform the testing and evaluations outlined in the Q mark regulations, guide manufacturers on related technical aspects, and issue a Q-certificate when a product satisfies the applicable requirements. This certificate allows the manufacturer to apply to the rights holder for a license to use the Q mark on the product concerned.

ANPI’s authorization is valid from September 21, 2026, to September 21, 2031. ANPI’s testing activities also fall under its BELAC 003-TEST accreditation in accordance with the EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
