The DBI has recently conducted tests to detect and extinguish lithium battery fires in electric cars on board ferries.

A vehicle fire is problematic in an open space, more so in a covered car park where the burning vehicle is surrounded by other vehicles, and even more so when the fire occurs on a ferry in the open sea, where the crew alone has to fight the fire while keeping the passengers safe.
DBI, supported by the Danish Maritime Fund, launched the project Electric Vehicle Fires at Sea: New Technologies and Methods For Suppression, Containment, and Extinguishing of Battery Car Fires On Board Ships (ELBAS) last year.
