Q-Label for smoke detectors
ANPI is an authorized technical institute for testing and quality evaluation of smoke detectors within the framework of the European certification mark Q. ANPI can perform the evaluations required by the standard and issue a Q-certificate when the product complies with applicable requirements.
What is the Q mark?
The Q mark is a European Union certification mark for smoke detectors. It identifies products meeting additional quality criteria defined in the mark’s regulations and associated technical documents.
It does not replace CE marking or applicable regulatory obligations. Instead, it complements these requirements with enhanced criteria focusing on durability, reliability, and specific detector functions.
Key criteria evaluated
Operating lifespan of at least 10 years for the integrated power supply;
- Resistance to disturbances, environmental conditions, and false alarms;
- Monitoring of smoke detection and alarm device operation;
- Protection of the measuring chamber and soiling compensation;
- Quality of transmission between interconnected detectors, where applicable;
- Behavior during dismantling, deactivation, and reactivation;
- Absence of negative impact from external communication modules on primary functions.
Who is this service for?
This service is intended for smoke detector manufacturers seeking to obtain a Q-certificate to apply for a Q-mark usage license. It is particularly relevant for companies operating in or looking to expand into the German market and, more broadly, the European market.
The path to the Q mark
1. Prepare the File
Gather the required test reports, certificates, declarations, and technical documentation—specifically elements related to EN 14604 and CE marking.
2. Entrust the evaluation to ANPI
ANPI reviews the documentation and performs or oversees the tests and evaluations required by the Q standard.
3. Obtain the Q-certificate
If the smoke detector satisfies the requirements, ANPI issues a Q-certificate summarizing the results.
4. Apply for the Q license
The manufacturer submits the Q-certificate to the body responsible for granting usage rights. The certificate alone does not constitute authorization to affix the Q mark.
5. Maintain compliance
Products bearing the mark are subject to periodic surveillance and testing.
Why choose ANPI?
- Longstanding expertise in smoke detector testing and evaluation;
- Laboratories accredited by BELAC in accordance with EN ISO/IEC 17025;
- A European partner for manufacturers targeting the German market in particular;
- Technical support up to the potential issuance of the Q-certificate.
