NTN 168-L - Firefighting foams - PART L: Specifications and laboratory tests: concentration measurement and quality of firefighting foams

The aim of this LAB Technical Note ANPI NTN 168-L is to fix the criteria for:

• the quality of firefighting foams based on a list of physico-chemical tests according to Chapter 11 (foam systems) of NFPA 25:2026 and Chapter 11 of NBN EN 13565-2:2018+ AC 2019 / AC 2021. Section B describes the tests to be performed on foam concentrates;
• the concentration percentage of firefighting foams. Section C describes the specificities of this measurement.

The firefighting foam can be used for application onto the surface of liquids which can be miscible with water, at low, medium, high or multi-expansion and can be used with fresh water (tap water) or sea (or brackish) water. The list of the proposed tests is aligned to a major part with existing standards.

The tests proposed in this Technical Note, as well for the quality as for the concentration, shall be done periodically as defined in the installation inspection’s Technical Note ANPI NTN 168-I.

This document replaces the previous version from July 2023. In this document, testing of stability to polar solvents has been added. These tests are required according to EN 13565-2, but not described how these tests shall be performed.
