On Friday 18 August, twenty-one firefighters from the Antwerp, Asse, Chièvres and Kortrijk rescue zones returned from Los Angeles where they participated in the World Police & Fire Games 2017 (WPFG).
About 50 Belgian firemen and police officers competed in various sports disciplines and won no less than 61 medals for Belgium.
Each edition of this biennial sporting event brings together more than 12,000 firefighters, police officers, prison guards and customs officers from all over the world.
In 2015 in Washington, some 50,000 spectators cheered on the participants and no less than 1,600 medals were awarded, including 25 medals to our "Belgian heroes."
The Asse firefighters, supported by ANPI asbl (the National Association for Protection against Fire and Theft) won medals ranging from Karate to Mud Run.
In September 2016, the Asse Fire Department team won the first prize in the "Belgian Fire Games", organised by the Directorate-General for Civil Security (FPS Interior)
in collaboration with the ANPI, with the aim of encouraging collaboration between the various rescue zones in the country.
The first prize, sponsored by ANPI vzw, was a sixfold ticket for the World Police & Fire Games 2017.
